| That makes sense. However, the system isn't smart enough to catalogue exactly what you stole. If you take a diamond from an alchemist's shop, then come back weeks later with an entirely different diamond—even one you didn't steal—and try to sell it to her, you're going to get arrested. That's annoying since you need to keep track of what practcialjokes you've stolen, and from whom. It's especially annoying when you get nailed for selling legitimately acquired property that matches an item practcialjokes stolen earlier. Further, if you're practcialjokes stopped for any crime—even if you're exonerated—the city guard will take away any stolen property on your person. Some sort of limit needs to be put on this, since thieves make their living by stealing. I myself was wearing stolen armor, lifted so long ago I'd completely forgotten it was stolen, when I was stopped for a murder in a town far away from the one where I'd gotten my armor. |
